From Dream to Reality
Atelier Provence began in 2015 when founder Claire Beaumont discovered an abandoned farmhouse during a walking tour of the Luberon valley. The crumbling stone walls and overgrown courtyard spoke to her of possibility. As a ceramicist trained in both traditional French techniques and contemporary approaches, she envisioned a space where craft could flourish far from the pressures of urban life.
The restoration took three years. Local stonemasons rebuilt the walls using traditional lime mortar. The original terracotta floor tiles were cleaned and preserved. A new roof of reclaimed tiles from neighbouring villages kept the building true to its heritage. Throughout this process, the vision crystallised: this would become a sanctuary for handmade creation.
Opening our doors in 2018, we welcomed our first participants with just two workshop offerings. Word spread through the creative community, and soon we were hosting makers from across Europe and beyond. Today, we offer a full programme of workshops while maintaining the intimate, unhurried atmosphere that defines the Atelier Provence experience.
